The Onboarding page brings new people into your team: what each role reads and does first, who it is sent to, and how far each person is. It has four tabs: For you (what was sent to you, when there is something), Roles and plans, Progress and Learn Sopycat, short walk-throughs of the app itself. The i beside the title sums up how it works.
Everything is kept in your library folder. When the library is in a shared folder (OneDrive, Dropbox, a network drive), what you send travels through that folder to your colleagues' Sopycat. Nothing goes online.
Onboarding is part of the Office plan, during the trial too. See Office plan features.
Learn Sopycat
Sidebar › Onboarding › Learn Sopycat
Six short tutorials, done with Follow along: each step shows where to click in Sopycat. Press Start on one; it is added to your library under the label Learn Sopycat and opens in Follow along. When you finish it, it is ticked off, and the tab counts how many you have done.
- Find your way around Sopycat

Roles and plans
Sidebar › Onboarding › Roles and plans
A role is a job in your team, such as Front desk or New hire. Your roles are listed on the left, each with how many people and plan items it has and whether its plan was sent; click one to open it. Before there are any, the tab shows the three steps.
- Press New role and type its name.
- In step 1 Who is in it, press Add people…: tick people already on the list, or type the name of someone who is not. The list has everyone who uses this library, by the name each set in Settings › Name on Records, so you can pick a name instead of guessing it. Names match whatever the capitals or spaces. A typed name nobody uses here yet gets a word about the spelling; you can still add it for someone who starts soon.
- In step 2 What they do first, press Add to the plan… and choose what someone new reads and does first. For a manual choose Follow along or Read and confirm; a document is read and confirmed. Type a number in Due in … days if you want a due date. Point at a row to move it up or down, or take it out.
- In step 3 Send it, press Send to everyone in the role. Anyone who joins the role later gets the plan too, with its days counted from the day they joined. Send to one person… sends it to just one.
What you add to a plan is also tagged for the role. To list other manuals under the role without sending them, use Tag manuals… under the plan; tagged manuals show when someone filters Home by the role. Rename or remove a role from its ⋯ menu.
Send a manual or document to someone
Open the manual › ⋯ More options › Send to read or do…
- Choose who it goes to: a person, everyone in a role, or Someone else… by name.
- For a manual, choose Do it with Follow along or Read it and confirm. A document is always read and confirmed.
- If you want, pick a day in Due by and write a short note.
- Press Send.
The same is on the ⋯ menu of every card on Manuals and Documents (Send to read… for a document).
What the person sees
- On their Home, a Your onboarding card with how many are done and what is next, overdue first; the same list is on the For you tab of the Onboarding page.
- A Windows notification once for each thing sent to them, when their Sopycat sees it in the shared library. Clicking it opens what was sent. The switch for Sopycat's notifications is in Settings › Screen Recording.
- On the manual or document, a banner saying who sent it and by when, with I have read this or Start Follow along.
Progress
Sidebar › Onboarding › Progress
Everyone something was sent to, with a bar for how far they are and their items grouped Completed, Incomplete, Not started and Overdue. The buttons above the list show only the people with something in one group, such as Overdue. Click a person to see each item. Take back withdraws something sent by mistake; what was already done stays in Records.
The same groups are on the Records page.
Common questions
Someone says nothing shows on their Home
Check that they open the same shared library as you, that their Settings › Name on Records matches the name you sent it to, and that their computer has an Office key.
Is a tick proof that someone did it?
It is a record, not a signature: it shows that the person named in Sopycat confirmed or finished it at a certain time. To have a document signed, see Sign and fill in PDFs.
